Description

Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6463 m / 7068 y | Type Parkland

Surrounded by all this beautiful scenery which includes several picturesque waterfalls and the iconic railway bridge it is easy to get distracted from the many challenges that this course will throw at you.

For those staying in Chiang Mai city centre, it takes a little under an hour to travel south to Gassan Khuntan Golf and Resort.  This golf course is considered by many to not only be one of the most beautiful in Chiang Mai but the whole of Thailand.

One of three golf courses owned by the Gassan Group, the course was designed by Mr. Pravit Reungpo and opened for play in 2004.  The par-72, 27 hole golf course is surrounded by Doi Khuntan National Park and mountains, which combine to give the course a stunning backdrop.

The course has been created around some of the best and most famous landmarks in Doi Khuntan National Park which include Khuntan Tunnel and the Khuntan Railway Bridge.  Much of the course has been man made but nature has also played a big role and you will struggle to keep you camera away as you play around the 27 holes.

However, if you want to score low at Gassan Khuntan Golf and Resort you cannot afford to take your eye off the golf course for long.  Not only is this one of the most beautiful golf courses in Chiang Mai it is also one of the most challenging.

The obstacles are the main reason why Gassan Khuntan Golf and Resort is such a tough test.  There are three island greens in total.  Most golf courses would be happy to include one and this underlines the challenge faced by players at Gassan Khuntan Golf and Resort.  There are other water carries and bunkers which provide further danger plus several of the holes have sharp doglegs.

The first island green is found on the par-3 5th hole.  It is a small green protected by bunkers in addition to the water and the best bet is to aim for the middle of the green.  Attacking the pin can prove costly if it is near the edge of the putting surface.

The additional 9 holes are new having opened for play in 2018.  The course plays through the State Railway of Thailand train tracks, which is an interesting twist.  However, this set of 9 holes boast the same exceptional scenery and challenge as the original 18 holes at Gassan Khuntan Golf and Resort.

Away from the golf course and the clubhouse is basic but features locker rooms, a pro shop and restaurant.  Players can enjoy a drink and something to eat on the terrace which overlooks the course.  Additional facilities at Gassan Khuntan Golf and Resort include a driving range and putting green.
